Camera
The art show has gone well. Next week is the closing reception and we’ll be picking up art the first weekend in October. At this point two of my three paintings have sold. It would be convenient if the third one sold as I’m going to be out of town during the pick-up window, so if there’s one left, I’ll have to get someone else to get it for me. (But I have someone lined up, so no worries.)
This week I remembered that I have an actual camera that I haven’t played with in almost four years, so I dug it up and found all the bits and things I needed. I was never very skilled with the thing, but I brushed off the knowledge I had and started figuring things out. My goal is to start collecting landscape reference photos. The trick is to figure out what sorts of landscapes I’m interested in, so I’ll be looking to throw a wide net and try to figure that out. Not just what landscapes I like, but figuring out what landscapes I’d like to paint, as opposed to just the ones I’d like to take a photo of. They’re not necessarily the same.
The good news for me is that a landscape reference doesn’t have to be a high quality photograph. I still want to learn more about how to use my camera more effectively, but I don’t have to be a good photographer to get good use out of my camera.
